Residential Special Education Teacher

The Residential Teacher, under general supervision of the Education Director, plans and implements an instructional program that provides related educational services for students with severe emotional and behavioral disabilities.

  • Manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, and modifies instructional activities, as required; carries out a variety of student monitoring and controls activities; performs related duties as required or assigned.
  • Positions covered by this specification serve general education or special education classrooms. Classes taught may be single or multi-grade level, subject, skill or specialty oriented. Greater than average monitoring is required to protects the health and safety of clients while providing academic instruction and managing client’s behaviors.
  • Reads and implements each client’s individualized treatment plan, IEP, and 504 Plan. Plans programming and is an active team member in carrying out treatment goals. Participates as a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team and maintains a team environment.
  • Qualifications: Possess B.A. or B.S. Degree in the Education field from an accredited college or university with at least five years of verifiable work experience preferably with children; Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure with endorsement(s) required for teaching assignment; Must have a working knowledge of Standards of Learning requirements, established by the VDOE.

Director of Education

The Director of Education position leads development, implementation, and evaluation of efforts related to student academic achievement. Manages and evaluates school staff on an annual basis and as needed for disciplinary action as well as oversees school policies, curricula and faculty according to the department of education standards and state licensing.

Essential Functions/Skill Competencies:

  • Identifies key academic performance indicators (KPIs) and a standardized school improvement plan.
  • Consults with internal and external stakeholders to develop, measure, and analyze learning outcomes and state licensing requirements to develop, measure, and analyze student performance.
  • Responsible for monitoring the IEP’s of students to ensure that goals are accurate and timely.
  • Ensures that student’s education files are maintained and that they include the latest testing, IEP’s, and report cards.
  • Creates and executes internal and external compliance and reporting programs for all relevant accreditation bodies.
  • Qualifications: Must be a licensed teacher with 4 years of experience providing special education to a diverse group of students with behavioral, developmental, and psychiatric issues teaching inside of a classroom and 2 years of experience in a school administrator role; Must successfully complete all new hire orientation and training requirements; Must participate in a minimum of 15 hours annually of in-service training applicable to specific job duties and responsibilities.
