Little Keswick School is a non-profit private, therapeutic, residential school serving boys, ages 9-17 years old who have learning disabilities and emotional challenges. Little Keswick School is an award winning program located in central Virginia, six miles east of Charlottesville, home of the University of Virginia and near the Blue Ridge Mountains. We are best known for our history of success using a consistently nurturing but steady and structured approach in helping students grow and develop. Little Keswick School is currently accepting applications for the position of                 Residential Counselor

RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM

We seek energetic, engaging applicants who have a passion for helping children experience personal growth. The Residential Program offers students a setting to practice and learn interpersonal and life skills. Students spend their afternoon, evening, and weekend residential hours immersed in structured, planned, and engaging activities lead by Counselors. Residential Counselors are integral in the students’ daily living and have strong, supportive relationships with the students. In addition to building relationships, counselors teach Social Thinking© skills, lead group discussions, plan engaging activities, lead off-grounds trips, and use the Mandt® system to support each student to be safe within the group living environment. The ideal applicant is a blended professional who is organized, able to multi-task, and can attend to the details and subtleties of the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors of this student population. Residential staff must be active members of a team and contribute to the overall treatment direction of our students, while being able to utilize the guidance and insight of our clinical staff.

  • Full-time, salaried position between $37,000 – $41,000 depending on education & experience
  • Partial medical, dental, life insurance, and tuition assistance. Full medical and dental after 3 years of employment.
  • 40 hours of paid sick leave per year, prorated if joining mid-year

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE FOR RESIDENTIAL COUNSELOR/INSTRUCTOR

  • Minimum High School Diploma
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Human Services (i.e. Social Work, Psychology, etc.). If no BA/BS, then 2 years of experience working with special needs children required.
  • Experience working in camps, youth groups, and/or school systems preferred

REQUIRED CAPABILITIES FOR RESIDENTIAL COUNSELOR/INSTRUCTOR

  • Possesses an engaging and strong personality
  • Available to sleep in the Counselor’s bedroom 3.5 times per week
  • Ability to lead a group of boys in an engaging and positive manner
  • Ability to clearly communicate via reports
  • Annual Mandt® certification, CPR/First Aid certification, and Lifeguarding certification
